Encourage walkable, bikeable communities

Mar 9th, 2010 | By | Category: Featured

The Community Policy Action Team of the Healthy Kids, Healthy Michigan Coalition, of which MOA is a member, needs your help to support the adoption of a Complete Streets resolution.  The resolution encourages communities and road agencies to consider infrastructure as a way to create more walkable, bikeable places where children and families can be physically active.

MOA members can show support for this effort by sending your legislators a letter urging them to adopt Michigan House Concurrent Resolution 34.  Download a template letter of support, Michigan HCR 34, and the Complete Streets fact sheet for more information.  Organization leaders are also asked to forward these materials to their members and/or associates inviting them to take action.  Please use your discretion whether you want to include a copy of the resolution and/or fact sheet when sending in the letter of support.  Letters can be sent electronically or mailed to representatives and senators at the following addresses:

State Representatives:
PO Box 30014
Lansing, MI 48909-7514

State Senators
PO Box 30036
Lansing, MI 48909-7536

Complete Streets focuses on roadways planned, designed, and constructed to accommodate safe access for children, as well as, pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit riders of all ages and abilities.  When communities implement complete streets, residents are connected with businesses, restaurants, schools and other popular destinations with sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, and/or paths.  Complete Streets is investing in Michigan’s future and is part of creating livable and economically viable communities.

  1. Thank you MOA for posting this action alert! As a fellow member of Healthy Kids Healthy Michigan Initiative, I’d like to encourage MOA to also become a partner in the Michigan Complete Streets Coalition. MCSC is a stand alone effort focused solely on implementing Complete Streets policies across the state. We would love to add MOA to our growing list of supporters.
